Christmas at the Martine Inn

December 5, 2010

Vol12No3

The Cypress MG Club of Monterey held their annual Christmas Party on December 5, 2010. There were 33 club members in attendance. The event was held at the lovely Martine Inn in Pacific Grove. The atmosphere was spectacular.

Christmas was in every room with antiques giving the ambiance of warmth and comfort. Wine was served prior to lunch, tours of the Inn were taken. Several people who had never been to the Inn before, took the opportunity to have Don Martin show them some of his MG collection. We were especially pleased to see Stan Patterson who had been in the hospital and is now recovering nicely.

During the reception, three carolers entered the front door all dressed in English garb. They were the Merry Carolers. They ascended up the stairs and began to sing Christmas Carols. The place fell into silence. What wonderful harmony they sang and it was all a cappella. It was wonderful! What great voices! Check them out on www.merrycarolers.com and listen to some of the songs. You will understand what we heard.

At 2:00 everyone adjourned to the dining room. What a beautiful view! Sail boats were cruising and the sea was calm. The rain had stopped just long enough for everyone to get a great view of the ocean. Our lunch was something special, lovely soup, salmon and desert. Nothing was missing to call it a grand meal. The carolers came into the dining room and treated us with a couple more Christmas songs just to get us in the mood. And it certainly did.

A little business. Bruce Obbink was elected President and Pat Whittaker was elected Vice President. The vote was not unanimous with their spouses voting "no". Everyone talked about possible adventures in the coming year.

Jim Weisenborn, a guest from Carmel Valley and MG racer gave a report on some of his experiences throughout the United States on the race track with his twin cam MGA. He and Don Martine have raced together on various race tracks.

The party concluded and everyone headed for home with the Christmas spirit. This Christmas event will probably go down as one of the most beautiful we have ever had. A very special thanks to Don Martine and Anne Ross for their wonderful hospitality.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year To All.
