The 2008 Holiday Spirit
Vol 10 No 3
As these Holiday Seasons keep popping up, one has to think about where the time has gone. It seems like only yesterday we were putting together a short story on Christmas 2007. Now we are at Christmas 2008 and before you know it we will be looking at Christmas 2009.
The
Cypress MG Club is now boasting of a membership of 26 couples. Not all cars
are on the road but at least they are in the process of putting the rubber
to the pavement. The Obbink TC is still in the shop with the engine on the
stand but about ready to be dropped back in. Let’s hope they have
corrected what ever the problem was. They still haven’t determined exactly
what caused that clacking sound and all the experts who have looked at it
are still scratching their heads
There
was a great turn out at the
Obbink’s for the Christmas event. Just in case people couldn’t find the
house they parked the Whittaker’s TC and Obbink’s TD in the drive way.
Decorated them with a festive ribbon on each grill and then turned a flood
light on them. As the evening wore on, it was fun
to watch cars slow down as they passed. Some even stopped and stared at the
two beautiful specimens in the drive way. The house had lights strung along
their front wall, and a Christmas tree in the front window so you knew the
holiday season was upon us. Judy Obbink and Pat Whittaker prepared all the
food and an array of wine was served. All enjoyed bbq chicken wings, egg
salad stuffed in small pita breads, endive leaves with smoked salmon, meat
balls cooked in a kind of pineapple sauce, shrimp, nuts and not so low
calorie desert specials. The ladies really did a wonderful job.
Bright moments always
begin when you have these get together events and someone is introduced to a
newcomer and all of a sudden one person says “do you know” and they
respond “that it is my best friend”. That happened at this party between
Lynda Strand and Dan Gould. The Goulds have moved to Pacific Grove recently
from Marin County and have a great looking 1948 TC. Bruce Obbink had met Dan
Gould recently and encouraged him to come to the party and meet some of the
members. Since the Goulds live close by the Obbink home, here came Dan
walking up the street flashlight in hand. It didn’t take him long to join
in the party atmosphere. That is when Dan and Lynda struck up the
conversation and began to trace back old times in Belvedere. As Dan left the
party he said “what a fun evening – sign me up as a new member of this
club”.
The evening progressed with a lot of stories and pleasant conversations. We want to wish each and every one of you a very HAPPY HOLIDAY and let’s all pray for a more prosperous NEW YEAR.
