The Passeys In Watsonville
November 12, 2011
Vol 13 No 2
Saturday November 12, 2011 looked a little ominous with “iffy” weather to be traveling northward to Watsonville and tour the Jack Passey collection. But as expected once the Cypress MG Club gathered at El Estero Park the weather cleared and all was well.
The
O’Connors, Spangenbergs, Goulds, John Bertolotti and Don Martine all
arrived on time at 9:00. Then came the telephone calls. The Gibfrieds were
on their way but developed a smoking engine and turned back. A problem
developed with the Strands and they had to cancel at the last minute. Nadia
Jensen met the group at the Passeys driving directly from home.
The faithful were on their way promptly at 9:30 and had enough time to stop at the Surf City Coffee Shop in Moss Landing for a cup of coffee and a 30 minute rest stop. They then arrived at the Passeys at the appointed hour of 11:00 AM.
The club was met by Jack and Mona Passey. The facility has two floors and about 40 cars to admire. Most of the cars are rare. Jack Passey started collecting cars in the 1940’s. Some of the cars were partially restored and some fully restored.
A
majority are big cars, Lincoln, Cadillac and Packard. They are estimated to
be in the late teens to mid 1930’s with few being post war cars.
Jack and Mona gave a very complete tour of the facility and explained all the restorations they have completed.
About
1:00 PM the group headed for “Car-Mona” restaurant in Watsonville where
Mona
Passey had made reservations for a no host luncheon.
The tour was back in Monterey by 3:00 PM.
Those attending were stunned by the collection of such beautiful cars.
The next event is scheduled for December 11, 2011 at the Point Pinos Grill at the Pacific Grove Golf Links. Be sure to contact Bruce Obbink with your RSVP. The Grill has been receiving some high marks for food service under new operators, Dory Ford, so we thought we should give it a try. We will have the tournament room to ourselves so it should be a nice time. We will get the menu out to everyone soon.
